Sometimes versus habit.

Both of the above situation play an important part in maintaining good health.

Most health tips you’ll find are based on being habitual, on being followed all the time without exception. But in reality there is always the ‘sometimes’, where you just want to eat something you really like no matter what it is. It’s very important to deal with these situations, to plan ahead on how to tackle them. Because they will occur… The good thing is that the ‘sometimes’ moments by themselves do very little damage in respect to your overall calories. As long as the don’t become a habit.

Planning a healthy eating pattern is like planning a long trip. You originally plan to go from A to B (the diet plan) but along the way will want to take a break and rest (the temptations). If you take too many breaks you’ll never arrive. But if you don’t plan ahead any breaks you’ll become exhausted and loose your motivation to continue (and out goes the diet!). So plan those breaks well.


I can advise you a few things when dealing with ‘sometimes’ moments:

* don’t eat in a hurry, or standing. Sit down, take your time. If you have decided to take a break and eat something ‘bad’ – make sure you enjoy it 100%! Indulging yourself too quickly will not take away the crave to eat, and you might end up snacking more than you planned.

* Take a plate or fixed portion. For instance a few pieces of chocolate. Don’t take the source with you (the whole chocolate bar for instance) as it will only make it more difficult to control yourself..

* Allocate a fixed place in the house for ‘sometimes’ moments. Don’t keep snacks next to your bed, couch or other place where you spend lots of time. The temptation might be too much for you in the end!

* To loose 5kg in one year, all you would normally have to do is decrease your calorie intake by 100 calories per day. (this does however vary from person to person). To achieve this all you would need to do is replace one sweet croissant at breakfast for a simple piece of toast. Voila. To achieve double, simply replace a nice pizza with a vegetable pie. To achieve even triple you could replace your entire breakfast with a Nature Crops nutrition bar once in a while.
